Bundling products together can help drive up customer’s online store spend

Grouping products together and selling them as a set is a well established method that offline stores use to create uniqueness and increase in-store spending. Your online store can use these methods too.

Turning on the facility to buy products as a group (a store feature available in the latest version of Ozcart), gives you the opportunity to do this and a lot of flexibility in how you do it too.

Ozcart gives you the ability to create a bundle of products of just a particular size and/or a bundle of different products in your store. If you’re selling products that are very similar to other stores, this is a great way of differentiating products from other sellers by creating unique bundles.

One way of using bundles is to organise them by buying event, size or the parent product  that they relate to rather than just have the products being sold by themselves. For example, you could have create bundled products like the “leaving work gift pack”, a “makeover kit” in a particular size, a “21st birthday pack”, a “going overseas travel pack”, “iPad travel kit” etc.

Another way of implementing bundles is just to give a discount on complementary products when they are bought together. So instead of just having trousers recommended on the proudct page of your store when a customer buys a shirt (“you might also like”, “customers also bought”), you can give a particular discount or set price if they are bought together. There’s a lot of flexibility in what you can do as you can apply a fixed price to the bundle making a set, or just a discount on buying them (allowing you to run specials like buy one get 50% off another product). Another application is in products like hampers or cosmetics where you can create effective bundles of products from others in your store.

An extension of the bundled products idea could be using configurable products, so customers could make their own bundles (and then use the reorder facility to keep rebuying them if they wished). This gives a higher level of customer engagement in your store and potentially much higher sales.
